On submissions

We are eager to see you flash fiction, poetry, short stories, and creative nonfiction. Here at Xenia, there's no specific themes or guiding principles. Just give us your most affecting, your most true. Give us your work that reaches as best it can toward translating that impossible-to-pronounce language of human experience, of human emotion.

Xenia publishes two issues annually, one in fall and one in spring. The submission window for the fall issue is from June 1st to September 1st, and the submission window for the spring issue is from December 1st to March 1st. You can expect to hear from us within the month following the submission deadline. All submissions should be of original, previously unpublished work.

The very idea of xenia considers it rude for a host to ask questions, or even for the name of their guest, before the guest has finished the meal provided to them. It is for this reason that we don't ask you for a bio unless your work is accepted, and we don't put any particular focus on cover letters, either. Make it brief. Or make it silly. Or make it however you like. It will not influence our decision about your pieces.

Submissions should be uploaded through our google form linked through the button above.

Simultaneous submissions are welcome. If another journal accepts your work before we get to it, congratulations! It will be our loss. If you need to withdraw your poem, please send an e-mail to xeniareview@gmail.com with the subject "WITHDRAWAL—Title of Work."
